Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management Study 2023

Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management Study 2023

In 2023 sovereign investors find themselves navigating an altered macroeconomic environment, marked by surging inflation and higher real interest rates.

This year’s study, the eleventh in the series, discusses how these factors are influencing asset allocations, and examines the impact on long-term trends, including rising allocations to private assets and funding the energy transition. We also examine the next generation of development funds and find central banks seeking stability amid currency challenges.

This year we spoke face to face with chief investment officers, portfolio strategists and heads of asset classes at 85 Sovereign funds and 57 central banks, 142 institutions in total, representing USD21 trillion.

The study provides unique insights into the investment objectives and behaviours of sovereign investors, and unearthed five key themes.

Explore five key themes:

  1. Building portfolios in the new macro environment
  2. Finding value in private assets
  3. Financing the future: sovereigns’ strategies for accelerating the energy transition
  4. The next generation of development funds
  5. Golden opportunities: central banks seek stability amid currency challenges
